Controlling the temperature of your fermentations is one of the most important elements to a quality, repeatable fermentation, and can ultimately make or break the final brewery and beer. That is why many breweries and beer manufacturers invest in glycol chiller system to keep their beer at the ideal temperature. Our high quality glycol chiller systems from Tongwei are built with fermentation temperature control in mind, and are perfect for breweries and wineries. However, how to choose the right glycol chiller system can be difficult, given that there are many options available from a lot of glycol chiller suppliers. In this article, we talk about some of the essential factors to consider when choosing a glycol chiller system for breweries and beer.
1. cooling capacity for glycol chiller system in KW/Ton/But
Choosing the right cooling capacity is the first step in selecting a glycol chiller system. There are brewery tanks in most of breweries and beer manufacturers’ factory .At this time ,you need consider three main factors when choosing a glycol chiller system for your brewery tanks:
✷The tank volume ( bbl/gallon)
✷Temperature differential (inlet and outlet temperature in ℃/)
✷Cool down time (measured in hours)
Once you've considered all the elements in the equation, let's try to solve it using an abstract example.
Calculate the Pull Down Loads
✷Calculate the tank volume (bbl x 31= tank volume in gallons)
ex: 10 bbl tank = 331 gallons
✷Convert gallons to Ibs (tank volume in gallons x 8.33 = volume in Ibs)
ex: 331 gallons * 8.33 = 2757.23 Ibs
✷Multiply the total pounds by your temperature difference. This is often 80°F- 35°F= 45°F
ex: 2757.23 x 45= 124075.35 Total BTU
✷Calculate BTU/H (total heat load/cool down time in hours)
ex: 124075.35 /18 =6893.075 (BTU/HR)
2. Type of glycol chiller system
There are two main types of glycol chiller systems; air-cooled and water-cooled. Air-cooled glycol chillers are a better option for smaller breweries, as they no need cooling tower and easy installation. Water-cooled glycol chillers are ideal for larger breweries and can be more effective in cooling, just need install with cooling tower.

3. Energy efficiency
When choosing a glycol chiller system, energy efficiency should be a priority. A more energy-efficient glycol chiller system will save you money in the long run. Ensure you check the system’s EER (Energy Efficiency Ratio) to see how energy-efficient it is.
4. Brand reputation
Choose a reputable brand when purchasing a glycol chiller system. A brand with a good reputation suggests that the company produces quality chiller systems, and you will likely receive quality service and support should any problems arise. Now there are many chiller brands appear in the market , but most of them are not professional chiller manufacturer , chiller is one of their company products ,they main product is Plastic auxiliary machine.
5. Maintenance and service
Choose a glycol chiller system that is easy to maintain and service. Ensure the system comes with a warranty and that the chiller manufacturer has a after sales service team to support you when any issues that may come up.
6. Cost
Cost is always a factor in any purchase, and glycol chiller systems are no exception. While it may be tempting to select a cheaper glycol chiller system, it is important to remember that cheaper does not always mean better quality. Find a balance between cost and the quality you need to ensure you get the best value for your money.
